Aboriginal Children's Village
Vancouver, BC
2012
The Village offers 24 units of housing, ten of which are dedicated to foster families, and three dedicated to youth transitioning out of government care. Dr. Patrick R. Stewart’s own childhood experience in foster care inspired the design; where housing units are allocated to the foster child themself; meaning if the foster families fail to provide adequate care, it is the foster family that moves out of the housing unit, not the child. The building itself also contains office administration for Lu'ma Native Housing Society. It is three stories (44'-6" or 13.6m height), constructed with wood and pre-cast concrete, with an area of 61, 933 ft² (or 5753.8 m²). In 2023, PRSA completed a functional sweatlodge in addition to the private landscaping.
