Seabird Island Administration Building
Agassiz, BC
1996
Patrick R. Stewart Architect collaborated with two other architectural firms to complete the Seabird Island Administration and Recreation Building in 1996. This project housed the 8,000 square feet of administration offices and an 8,000 square foot community gymnasium. The lobby was designed in acknowledgment of the traditional form pit-house. The floor was designed with an inlaid fire-pit based on a known traditional layout in which every stone is named. The project was built with local labour and all the exterior timbers and siding were cut from their own lands and milled with local labour.
